OUR HISTORY

Since 2005, Pet Naturals® has led the way in the pet health industry through nutritional research and product development. Pet Naturals is a division of FoodScience, LLC. To this day, our mission at FoodScience remains the same: To help people and pets live healthier lives every day.

UNDERSTANDING PET SUPPLEMENTS

Just like us, pets can experience health issues that may be improved by introducing nutritional supplements into their diets. Cats and dogs can suffer from health issues related to behavior, joints, teeth and gums, digestion, organ function and so much more.

Supplements provide the added nutrients, vitamins and antioxidants that your pet needs to keep thriving and make the most of every day!

TAKE CUES FROM YOUR OWN HEALTH HABITS

Just as they do for us, supplements can provide the added nutrients, vitamins and antioxidants that may not be found in your pet’s diet. You may take a daily multivitamin, probiotics, or fish oil for your health. Shouldn’t your pet also get the benefits of an added nutritional boost?

Dietary supplements provide key nutrients that may otherwise not be consumed in sufficient quantities for complete health. Supplements can include vitamins, minerals, fiber, fatty acids, or amino acids, among other substances. Supplements are usually made from carefully sourced nutrients that are often scientifically proven with a history of providing real benefits to the body.

While medication often temporarily blocks or masks the problem or its symptoms, supplements focus on addressing the root of the problem without the side effects of medication. Supplements focus on providing the additional nutritional building blocks a pet needs in order to stay or get healthier.

Supplements can be taken by any pet, whether it is for general wellness, or to address a specific issue. One recent study indicates that as many as 90% of consumers would prefer supplements instead of traditional medication for their pet.*

Preventative care vs. expensive treatment – We know that if we eat well, take our vitamins and exercise regularly we may live longer, healthier lives. The same goes for our pets. Along with a healthy diet, routine exercise and regular vet visits, supplements can help our pets live long and healthy lives. This can also benefit us by possibly avoiding or deterring long term health conditions that can lead to expensive veterinary care visits.

The cost of veterinary medicine has risen substantially. Currently, it’s the second highest source of pet spending after food. While every pet should have an annual checkup, supplements can provide nutritional support a pet needs while potentially avoiding more expensive veterinary care such as prescription drugs or surgery.

Keeping your pet healthy – While pet food usually provides the core nutrition that a pet needs, supplements can address specific deficiencies that may or may not manifest themselves visibly.

Alternative therapy – Medication may have side effects that are worse than the problem it’s trying to solve. Since supplements are comprised of essential nutrients and fill nutritional gaps left by food, they can provide an alternative approach to maintaining and improving their health.

Nutritional supplements provide therapeutic levels of vitamins, minerals, and other dietary nutrients with specific dosing instructions. They are not formulated to be used as a treat or food and follow specific labeling and regulatory guidelines to ensure compliance and efficacy.

Fortified food and treats may contain similar ingredients, but not at the same levels and can introduce more variability in how much the pet is getting. The levels can be so low in food and treats that the pet would need to eat an unhealthy amount before getting enough of the active ingredients to make a difference. With supplements, a chew, tablet or capsule contains the specific amount of ingredients needed to support their health.

Pets of all ages, sizes and breeds can benefit from dietary supplements. Larger breeds are more prone to hip and joint issues and can benefit from supplements earlier in life. In many cases, early intervention can help delay or even prevent those issues from materializing.

Supplements can also be given to support general health and wellness throughout every stage of life.

There are many different types of supplements, with variations and combinations of ingredients and benefits, including:

Behavior and Cognitive – Supports calm and focused behavior during times of stress.

Cardiovascular Health – CoQ10, omega fatty acids, and other minerals and vitamins support heart health.

Dental Health – Chews, powders and sticks that address the underlying reasons for dental issues like plaque and tartar building.

Dermatological Health – Omega fatty acids, biotin and vitamins that support skin health to help eliminate hairballs in cats.

General wellness – Multivitamins keep your pet looking and feeling their best.

Gastrointestinal Health – Usually consist of probiotics and prebiotic fiber to support digestive health.

Immune System – Vitamins, minerals, enzymes and probiotics have been shown to support immune system health.

Joint Health – Ingredients such as glucosamine, chondroitin, MSM, and Perna Canaliculus promote joint health and comfort.

Liver & Kidney Health – Highly specialized ingredients such as Astragalus Root Powder, L-Arginine, and SAMe

UT and Bladder health – Cranberry, bromelain, probiotics and other specialized ingredients

Flea & Tick – An alternative or complement to prescription flea and tick medication

The following are industry standards for quality and the foundation of all Pet Naturals products:

NASC certified – The NASC (National Animal Supplement Council) was formed to help consumers recognize companies that are committed to quality, purity and transparency in the animal supplement world.

cGMP certification – Indicates that the manufacturer is regularly audited and conforms to current Good Manufacturing practices (cGMP) throughout the production process.

VHP notified products - Veterinary Health Products (VHP) are animal products that are sold in Canada such as vitamins, minerals, and specialty supplements that promote health and wellness for companion (pets) and food-producing animals. These products are registered with Health Canada through the VHP Notification Program. Health Canada is responsible for protecting both human and animal health, as well as, the safety of the Canadian food supply. They achieve this through monitoring and evaluating the safety, quality and effectiveness of each product.

Veterinarian formulated – When the formulation is overseen by veterinarians, it helps ensure that the combination of ingredients is safe and effective.

No corn, wheat or artificial ingredients – The focus should be on providing your pet with nutrients they need and nothing they don’t.

Pet friendly – Supplements won’t help if your pet doesn’t ingest them. Treat-like chews are the most appealing to pets, but tablets and capsules can work as well. Supplements in liquid form can be given to picky eaters that won’t take a chew.

100% Satisfaction guarantee – Removes the financial risk of your pet not liking the product or failing to see a desired result.
